The Mutua Madrid Open will be serving up some sensational tennis on Thursday. With the ATP round of 16 getting underway and the ball rolling in the WTA quarter-finals, Rafael Nadal will be the main attraction in the night session, while Andy Murray opens the day’s play against Gilles Simon on the Manolo Santana Centre Court.
Both competitions are getting down to the nitty gritty and the men’s draw could produce an epic day of tennis with Novak Djokovic, Murray and Nadal all gracing centre court to delight fans across the morning and night sessions. Day ticket holders will have the opportunity to see Murray square up against Gilles Simon and Djokovic take on Roberto Bautista, while night session attendees will be able to see Nadal continue his quest for a fifth Madrid Open title when he measures up against Sam Querrey. A triple helping of top class tennis.
The women’s draw also promises fresh drama on Thursday. After the elimination of defending champion Petra Kvitova at the hands of Daria Gavrilova and the withdrawal of Victoria Azarenka through injury, the WTA draw is wide open and it seems anyone could lift the trophy. Carla Suárez was also knocked out, losing to Samantha Stosur in a match where the Spanish player was in clear physical discomfort throughout. The only certainty is that the all-Romania meeting between Simona Halep and Irina-Camelia Begu will be a fascinating clash on centre court during the day session. In the evening, Samantha Stosur will play either Madison Keys or Patricia Maria Tig for a place in the semi-finals after the combative Australian defeated Carla Suárez late on Wednesday.
Ticket offices at the Caja Mágica will be open from 09:00 and the online sales system will be operational as always.
