The day has arrived and finally the Caja Mágica courts have opened their doors to the fans, who have enjoyed a day with the stars at the fifteenth anniversary of the Mutua Madrid Open. And what better way to open the tournament than by welcoming players such as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Petra Kvitova.
The Manolo Santana Centre Court provided a standing ovation for one of the tournament favourites, the most important Spanish player of all time, Rafael Nadal, who comes to the event on the back of two victories on the trot in Barcelona and Monaco, and will be bidding to continue the streak with another win in the Spanish capital.
Another player who enjoyed a warm welcome from the public was world number one, Novak Djokovic, who is back on the courts at the Mutua Madrid Open after three years without playing in Madrid.
For their part, the defending champions of the Ion Tiriac Trophy, Andy Murray and Petra Kvitova, have also tried out the clay courts in the Caja Mágica, along with the likes of Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori and Richard Gasquet.
The Caja Mágica clay has been put to good use on a day on which the fans enjoyed a great day of tennis.
