The moment of truth is just around the corner at the Mutua Madrid Open. There are now only 8 players left with a chance of lifting the ATP Masters 1000 cup, meaning the rest of the matches will be packed with tension and excitement.
One of the players with a chance of taking the spoils is Rafa Nadal. The Mallorcan has looked convincing so far and after his win over Australian player Alexei Popyrin, he is in the quarter-finals for the 15th time. His opponent there will be Alexander Zverev, in a duel between two ex-champions of the tournament in the Manolo Santana Stadium at 15:00.
Another of the star players in the quarter-finals is Dominic Thiem. The world No. 4 will be bidding to reach his third final in Madrid, but to do so he will have to get past John Isner, who has never played a semi-final in the Caja Mágica. The two players will meet on centre court at 13:00.
As his meteoric rise continues, Norwegian player Casper Ruud has reached the quarter-finals of his third straight ATP Masters 1000 on clay after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas, last edition’s runner-up. This is the third time Ruud has played in Madrid and this is already his best result. To continue progressing, he will have to get past Alexander Bublik in the Manolo Santana Stadium at no earlier than 19:00.
The final match in the quarters will see Cristian Garín in action in the Manolo Santana Stadium. The young Chilean player is having an impressive tournament debut in Madrid but if he wants it to continue to the semi-finals, he will have to beat World No. 10 Matteo Berrettini. This match will be played in the Manolo Santana Stadium.
