Rafael Nadal is firing on all cylinders. The player from Manacor spoke to reporters today in a press conference for ATP Media Day, where he discussed his form coming into a tournament “where I have a good record”, as the player himself stated.
According to Nadal “I’m very happy to be here again”, because, as the Spaniard said, the Mutua Madrid Open “is the event where I’ve received the most support in the world so I always really look forward to having that feeling again”.
Regarding his rivalry with Novak Djokovic as one of his main challengers, Nadal was very clear. “I’ve had three really positive tournaments now and if I have to play Djokovic it would be really big news because that means I’m in the final”. When asked who he thinks the favourite is, the Balearic Islander replied “whoever plays the best that week becomes favourite and also has the best chance”.
The Mallorcan was “happy with the standard I’ve produced in the last three weeks I’ve played, at Indian Wells, Monte Carlo and Barcelona”. “I’ve been playing against the world’s best for a few weeks and I’ve won matches against the best players in the world and played well against all of them”, so Nadal is taking it day by day and focusing on “doing my best possible to improve daily”.
“I don’t know what I’ll find in Madrid, I know I’m doing the right things and I’m really excited to play well here”, claimed Nadal, whose mind is on his opener on Tuesday.
