The world number one and first seed at the Mutua Madrid Open, Andy Murray, will take to the Manolo Santana Centre Court on Tuesday. The Scot will play his opener in the third match on the Caja Mágica’s centre court against a Marius Copil who saved two match points from Guillermo García López to seal his pass to the second round.
The first match in the main stadium stars Roberto Bautista and Ivo Karlovic, in a high-calibre duel. One of the best servers in the world will have his work cut out against the gritty Spaniard. In the following match defending champion Simona Halep will face what promises to be a stern challenge from Roberta Vinci.
The night session will see veteran Fernando Verdasco take on a young player destined for great things: Alexander Zverev. The day will come to a close on the Manolo Santana court when last year’s runner-up, Dominika Cibulkova, meets Oceane Dodin of France, who came through qualifiers.
In other big matches tomorrow, Tommy Robredo and Nicolás Almagro square off in an all-Spanish battle for the second round, where world number two Novak Djokovic awaits. Monte Carlo finalist, Albert Ramos, will also take to the court to face a difficult challenge against clay-court specialist Diego Schwartzman.
