Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova are the new Mutua Madrid Open women’s doubles champions. For the first time in their career, the Czech duo have taken the Caja Mágica crown.
The Czech players beat the team formed by the Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and Dutch player Demi Schuurs in under one and a half hours of play (6-4, 6-3) to succeed Barbora Strýcová and Su-Wei Hsieh, the champions of the last edition of the tournament.
The win means that the Czech pair now have two titles this season. After triumphing in Melbourne and falling at the final hurdle in the Australian Open, Krejcikova and Siniakova are now the queens of the Caja Mágica.
After the match, the two players spoke of the importance of the fans at the tournament. “I’d like to thank you all for coming to support us today. We had a fantastic atmosphere and it was great, we really appreciate it”, said Krejcikova.
The pair, who have been playing together since 2018, now have 7 WTA titles. It was a very challenging tournament for both of them. “It was a difficult couple of weeks, we’re very happy it ended like this”, explained Siniakova at the trophy presentation.
