Matteo Berrettini, the No. 10 in the ATP Ranking, is still dreaming of reaching his first ATP Masters 1000 final at the Mutua Madrid Open. The Italian player is storming through the rounds and now finds himself in the semi-finals. “I’m very proud that, despite coming here at a time that was psychologically difficult after my injury, I’ve worked very hard and I’m showing myself that I’m strong”.
Although he had to work for it, Berrettini defeated Cristian Garín (5-7, 6-3, 6-0), who also produced an impressive performance on his first trip to the tournament in the Spanish capital, beating players of the quality of Medvedev, among others.
The Italian’s current form is no coincidence, Berrettini arrived in Madrid after being crowned champion in Belgrade and having played another final at the ATP Cup in Australia.
To reach the final, Berrettini will have to get past Casper Ruud, another player who is proving to be one of the attractions of the tournament. “I think he’s a very, very good player, especially on clay. So far, he’s been playing very well, very solidly this season. It’s going to be a very tough match”.
