Novak Djokovic announced today that he will be back in Spain in May to compete in the Mutua Madrid Open. Although the world number 1 was already on the list of players registered for the tournament, today the Serbian player has confirmed on his official website that he will take part in the fourth Masters 1000 of the season. Djokovic, the champion in 2011 after beating Rafael Nadal in the final, will head an all-star cast for the fifteenth anniversary of the tournament, which will once again bring the best players on the planet to the clay of Spain’s capital.
The news means that, after his last appearance in 2012, the Mutua Madrid Open will be able to enjoy the presence of the 11-time Grand Slam champion. The best player in the world ranking, who has already triumphed this year in Melbourne, Indian Wells, Doha and Miami (last weekend), he has built an exceptional record in the last few years, consolidating his place at the top of the rankings thanks to his countless achievements at the best tournaments in the world. Djokovic picked up 11 titles in 2015 alone, including 3 majors (Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open) with an impressive record of 82 victories and six defeats.
