The Mutua Madrid Open held its draw today for what promises to be an exciting qualifier. The preliminary round will include five Spaniards and a number of well-known players bidding for a place in the main draw.

As they seek to progress to the money rounds on the Caja Mágica clay, a handful of players are worth keeping an eye on. One of them is Lorenzo Musetti, one of the stars of the next generation. The young, 19-year-old Italian, will be competing on the Madrid clay for the first time. His first opponent will be the Moldovan Radu Albot, who is seeded for the qualifiers.

Among the Spaniards looking to seal their passage to the main draw will be Bernabé Zapata Miralles, currently one of the most in-form local players. Zapata already knows what it is to play in the main draw in Madrid and to do so again he will have to dig deep; his first clash will be against Argentine Federico Delbonis, one of the most experienced clay players.

Sebastian Korda is also bound to turn heads. The young, promising player is seeded for the ‘qualies’. This will be the first time the American has attended the tournament and his debut could not be more hotly anticipated. He will open against another star of the future, Frenchman Arthur Cazaux.

For his part, Carlos Gimeno Valero is another of the Spanish young guns who will be present in the Caja Mágica to play in the tournament’s qualifying rounds. In his first appearance in the Spanish capital, the Valencian will clash with Stefano Travaglia, one of the toughest opponents in the qualifiers.

We could not talk about the seeds without mentioning Frances Tiafoe. The US player, one of the oldest players in the qualifiers, climbed as high as 30th in the ATP Ranking and this will be his second appearance in the Mutua Madrid Open. The North American will have to beat Italian player Marco Cecchinato if he wants to play in the main draw for a second time.
