Homes around Spain today are celebrating Mother’s Day and the world of tennis is no different. The Mutua Madrid Open provides us with a perfect opportunity to enjoy the day at the tournament. One of the event’s most memorable moments came two years ago when Carla Suárez was able to present her mother with a bouquet of flowers on court on this special day. We would like to take this chance to congratulate all the mothers on tour.
In particular, we’d like to mention all the mothers playing in this year’s Mutua Madrid Open: Victoria Azarenka, Vera Zvonareva and Alla Kudryavtseva. Azarenka announced in July 2016 that she was expecting a child and Leo will be 5 this December. They have been seen recently on social media, where the player joked about her son’s future in tennis:
Today, Azarenka will be bidding for a place in round 3 in the hope that she can dedicate the win to her son.
For her part, the Russian Vera Zvonareva will also have an important role to play today. Having come through qualifying, she bowed out in the first round, but she is still in the doubles competition. The ex-world No. 2 also became a mother in 2016 to a girl named Evelina, Doubles player Alla Kudryavtseva also had her first child in December 2018.
Finally, we’d like to sign off by again wishing all the mothers on tour a happy Mother’s Day. Congratulations!
